Are You Accountable?

Do we have Christians in our lives that are willing to ask us the tough questions about our spiritual and moral life? Do we have people that care enough to ask us about our devotional habits? Do we have friends that question us and our relationship with the opposite sex? Are there people so invested in our lives that they ask us about our attitude toward our family?

The Christian life is a continual battle against the desires of the flesh and the desire for Christlikeness and unfortunately many of us are battling alone. The hardness that creates “an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God” (Hebrews 3:12) can happen over an extremely short period to time. Therefore, extremely regular accountability can be a very healthy thing.

When looking for an accountability partner, it would be wise to find someone whom we respect and are fearful of, someone who won’t let us off the hook but will encourage us to root out the sin no matter the cost. We should not be looking for someone who struggles with the same sins as we do, someone who will let us off the easily, or someone who will gossip about our shortcomings.

Hebrews 3:13 (esv)“But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called ‘today,’ that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
